More Than Just Books: Supporting Our Dripping Springs Community Library πŸ“šβœ¨

Hey Dripping Springs!

Let’s talk about one of the absolute best things about our community… the Dripping Springs Community Library. And more specifically, the amazing group of people behind the scenes making sure it’s not just a place to borrow books, but a true community hub that brings us all together.

I’m talking about the Friends of the Dripping Springs Community Library (FODSCL for those who love a good acronym).

What the Friends Actually Do

Here’s the thing. Our library is incredible, but it takes more than just county funding to make the magic happen. That’s where the Friends step in.

This nonprofit organization raises money to fund all the programs and resources that make our library so special. We’re talking summer reading programs for the kids, podcasting equipment so local voices can be heard, even ukuleles for music programs. Last year alone, the Friends donated $30,000 to support library initiatives that served over 2,000 community members.

That’s not pocket change. That’s real investment in our neighbors, our kids, and our community’s future.

They fund everything from outdoor space upgrades to technology improvements to those special author events that get us all excited about reading again. Without the Friends, our library would be a very different place.

Mark Your Calendars: Pouring Over Books is Back!

Now here’s the main reason I’m writing today. The Friends are hosting their 15th Annual Pouring Over Books event, and it’s happening Sunday, March 1, 2026 at The Prospect House.

If you’ve never been to this event, let me paint you a picture. Imagine an afternoon celebrating books, good wine, live music, and community… all while supporting our beloved library. Yeah, it’s pretty much perfect.

This year’s featured author is Elizabeth Crook, an award-winning Texas author whose novels dive deep into Texas history and human resilience. If you haven’t read her work yet, you’re in for a treat. Her novel The Night Journal won the prestigious Spur Award, and her writing has been praised by everyone from The New York Times to People Magazine.

Elizabeth will be speaking at the event, and attendees will have the chance to get signed copies of her books. How often do you get face-to-face time with an acclaimed author right here in Dripping Springs?

Wine, Music, and Good Company

But wait, there’s more. (Had to say it.)

The event features a wine bar because, let’s be honest, books and wine just go together. Whether you’re a red person, a white person, or somewhere in between, they’ve got you covered.

And then there’s the music. The Hot Texas Swing Band will be providing live entertainment throughout the afternoon. If you’ve never heard them play, they bring that classic Texas sound that makes you want to tap your feet and maybe show off a two-step or two.

It’s basically the perfect Sunday afternoon. Great people, great cause, great atmosphere.

Why This Matters So Much

Look, I could write about real estate all day (and I do… trust me, I do). But what makes Dripping Springs so special isn’t just the beautiful properties or the Hill Country views. It’s the community. It’s the people who show up. It’s organizations like the Friends who quietly work behind the scenes to make our town better.

The library serves as a gathering place for young families during story time, teens looking for a quiet place to study, adults seeking job resources or starting new hobbies, and seniors connecting with neighbors. It’s one of the few places where every generation comes together.

When you support the Friends, you’re supporting all of that. You’re saying yes to programs that teach kids to love reading. Yes to technology that helps job seekers find work. Yes to community events that bring us closer together.

A Personal Note

I have to tell you something. Ashley Tullis, Realtor owner of Atomic Properties Group is a proud sponsor of this year’s Pouring Over Books event. (Hey that’s ME!)

Why? Because giving back to this community isn’t just something we talk about… it’s something we actually do. Dripping Springs has given so much to me and my family. Supporting events like this is one small way we can say thank you and invest in what makes this place so incredibly special.

When I moved here, I fell in love with more than just the real estate market. I fell in love with the community spirit, the way neighbors show up for each other, and the organizations that work tirelessly to make our town better. The Friends of the Dripping Springs Community Library embody all of that.

How You Can Help

Attending Pouring Over Books on March 1st is the most fun way to support the library, but it’s not the only way.

You can become a member of the Friends with an annual donation. You can volunteer your time at library events. You can shop at their book sales throughout the year. Every bit helps.

The library is also in the middle of a major expansion campaign to build a new 37,000 square-foot facility. We’re talking two stories, expanded meeting spaces, better collections for both adults and kids, and even an outdoor amphitheater designed to fit right into our beautiful Hill Country landscape. The goal is $5 million, and they’ve already raised $1.8 million. We’re getting there, but they need our support.

There’s even a cool Butterfly Sponsorship program where individuals, families, or businesses can sponsor a glass butterfly that will be permanently displayed in the new building. It’s a beautiful way to leave your mark on this important community space.

The Bottom Line

Our library is so much more than just books. It’s a cornerstone of what makes Dripping Springs feel like home.

The Friends of the Dripping Springs Community Library work year-round to ensure our library stays vibrant, relevant, and accessible to everyone. They deserve our support, our gratitude, and our presence at events like Pouring Over Books.

So mark your calendar for Sunday, March 1st. Head to The Prospect House. Enjoy some wine, listen to great music, meet Elizabeth Crook, and celebrate everything that makes our community special.

I’ll see you there! And if you want to learn more about the Friends or get tickets to the event, head over to fodscl.org.

Because at the end of the day, we’re not just building houses in Dripping Springs… we’re building a community worth calling home.
