The 37th Annual Founders Day: Your Ultimate Guide to Dripping Springs’ Biggest Party!

Hey Dripping Springs! Can you feel that buzz in the air?! The humidity is just starting to hint at summer, the bluebonnets are waving their final goodbyes, and the trailers are rolling into downtown. That can only mean one thing… it is finally Founders Day weekend! It is officially the 37th year we have come together to celebrate the founding of our beautiful town by the Moss, Wallace, and Pound families back in 1850.

If you are new to the area, welcome to the madness! This is the weekend where Mercer Street transforms into a giant block party. We are expecting around 40,000 people to descend upon our little slice of heaven from April 24th to April 26th. As your favorite dripping springs real estate agent, I have seen this festival grow year after year, and 2026 is looking like the biggest one yet!

Whether you are here for the carnival, the music, or just to eat your weight in funnel cake, I have got the ultimate guide to help you navigate the fun. So, grab your sunscreen and your walking shoes… let’s dive into everything you need to know!

The New Walking Parade: A Community Vibe

One of the biggest changes you need to know about this year is the parade. Historically, we have had big motorized floats, but for 2026, the city is trying something a little different for safety and community connection. We are doing a Walking Parade!

The parade kicks off Friday night at 6:30 PM. It is going to be non-motorized, which means more neighbors walking together, more local groups, and a much more intimate vibe. No big tractors or loud engines… just us! And it is going to be peoplely, so get there early if you want a good spot. Mayor Bill Foulds and the city council decided this was the best way to keep everyone safe while still honoring our traditions. I think it is going to be so special to see everyone face-to-face as they march down the street. It really highlights the “small town” feel that makes people search for dripping springs homes for sale in the first place!

Two Big Music Stages (And They Are Free!)

What is a Texas festival without live music?! This year, we aren’t just sticking to one stage. We have two big music stages going all weekend long! One is located on Mercer Street and the other is over on Wallace Street.

The best part? It is totally free. You can wander between the stages, grab a cold drink, and listen to some of the best local talent the Hill Country has to offer. From country to rock to blues, there is going to be something for everyone. It is the perfect backdrop for catching up with friends you haven’t seen since the last farmers market dripping springs event!

Become a Cook-off Judge

If you think you have a world-class palate, now is your time to shine! The cook-off is a massive part of Founders Day. We are talking margaritas, chicken, brisket, ribs, salsa, chili… you name it, someone is cooking it.

They are always looking for people to help judge! You can sign up at the “little white house” on-site or head over to cookoffclub.com to register online. The samples are free, so bring cash to tip the teams! It is a great way to get involved and taste some of the best food in Texas. Just make sure you come hungry because those portions are no joke!

Sunday Funday: Carnival Wristband Day

If you have kids (or if you are just a big kid yourself), Sunday is your day. The Mighty Thomas Carnival is a staple of Founders Day, but Sunday is the legendary Wristband Day. Sunday wristbands are $30, and you can ride the carnival rides all day long!

The carnival is open Friday from 4 PM to 11 PM, Saturday from 11 AM to 11:30 PM, and Sunday from 11 AM to 7 PM. It is located right in the heart of the action. Pro tip: Thomas Carnival tickets are “forever tickets,” so if you still have some from last year, they still work! You can also grab pre-sale tickets through Friday at noon: 70 for $50, which is half price. They are available cash only at South Star Bank, Rio Bank, Prosperity Bank, Sunflower Bank, Martin’s Pharmacy, and City Hall. Pro tip: do the rides before you hit the BBQ cook-off booths… trust me on this one!

Shop ‘Til You Drop with 150+ Vendors

The vendor scene this year is absolutely massive! We have over 150 booths lined up, with shopping open Saturday from 11 AM to 6 PM and Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM. We are talking handmade jewelry, local crafts, boutiques, and stalls for local businesses. It is the perfect place to find a unique gift or something special for your home.

And definitely make a stop by John’s booth on Wallace Street behind Hudson’s and near Independence Title. It is my husband’s new passion project, and he will be out there with custom patch hats and screen-printed headwear.

As part of Atomic Properties Group with Keller Williams, I love seeing our local entrepreneurs thrive. Supporting these vendors is what keeps our community strong. If you are looking for realtors in dripping springs tx who actually know the local makers and shakers, you are looking at her!

Why Location Matters: The Neighborhood Spotlight

Founders Day is the one time of year where every neighborhood in the Dripping Springs High School zone comes together! Since I’m all about the data, let’s talk about where everyone is coming from. In 2025, I was honored to have sold more houses than anyone else in the Dripping Springs Independent School District. That gives me a unique perspective on our local communities. Here is a quick spotlight on the neighborhoods that make our school district so incredible:

  • Belterra: This is one of the biggest hubs in our area! With miles of trails and a huge community feel, Belterra residents always show up in force for Founders Day. It’s the perfect blend of suburban comfort and Hill Country beauty.
  • Highpointe: Gated, gorgeous, and full of amenities. Highpointe families love the proximity to the schools and the sense of security. They are big fans of the local music scene!
  • Headwaters: If you love modern farmhouse vibes and incredible sunsets, Headwaters is the place. It’s a newer community that has quickly become a local favorite.
  • Caliterra: Situated along Onion Creek, this neighborhood is all about nature. It’s peaceful, serene, and the residents here really value the “Founders” history.
  • Arrowhead Ranch: Right near the high school, this spot is perfect for families with busy teens. They have some of the best community events outside of Founders Day!
  • Big Sky Ranch: One of the newer additions to the DSHS zone, offering a great entry point into the district with high-quality builds and a friendly vibe.
  • Founders Ridge: Aptly named for this weekend! This neighborhood is walking distance to downtown, making it the “place to be” for the parade.
  • Bunker Ranch: If you want space and luxury, Bunker Ranch is where it’s at. Huge lots and custom homes that are truly breath-taking.
  • Parten: Located a bit further out, Parten offers that true Hill Country “escape” while still being part of the award-winning school district.
  • Heritage: A boutique community that offers a cozy, tight-knit feeling that fits the Founders Day community spirit perfectly.
  • Rim Rock: Known for its large lots and incredible views, Rim Rock is a staple of the Dripping Springs area for those who want a little more elbow room.
  • Driftwood / Creek of Driftwood: Technically our neighbors, but they are part of the DSHS family! They bring that legendary Driftwood flair to the festival every single year.

Tips for a Stress-Free Founders Day

  1. Use the Shuttle: Park at the high school and hop on the free Rotary Club shuttle. It runs Saturday from 9:30 AM to Midnight and Sunday from 9 AM to 5:30 PM.
  2. Stay Hydrated: The Texas sun is no joke, even in April. Drink plenty of water between those local brews.
  3. Check the Map and Schedule: Things move fast, and almost everything has a new location this year. Sunday One Church starts at 10 AM, so double check the map before you head out. Keep an eye on the official city social media pages for any last-minute updates to the music lineup or parade route.
  4. Support Local: When you buy from a vendor or a local food truck, you are helping a neighbor. That is what Founders Day is all about!
  5. Visit Me! If you see the Atomic Properties Group logo or spot me in the crowd, come say hi! I love meeting new neighbors and catching up with old clients.
